AMAGANSETT, NY: Located about 110 miles from the heart of New York City and easily accessible by car, train, luxury bus liner, private plane or helicopter, Amagansett is an unincorporated hamlet within the Town of East Hampton featuring a village area with a proper village green, shops and restaurants, and encompassing the Napeague Stretch – referring to the narrow portion of Montauk Highway running between Montauk and downtown Amagansett with Napeague Bay and Harbor on one side - one of the finest kite-boarding locations in the region - and the Atlantic Ocean on the other – a well known destination for beach lovers.
With its proximity to the ocean and bay beaches, as well as to town, Amagansett is attractive to water and boating enthusiasts and offers a wide range of properties from large estates to casual beach cottages to wooded acreage and everything in between.
Its vibrant village includes a village square right on Main Street, fine boutiques, restaurants, nightclubs, designer home furnishing stores, coffee houses, a music store, salons, galleries, and an iconic Farmer's Market open in season.
Offering a wide array of live music throughout the year, the legendary Stephen Talkhouse is a popular meeting place. Local restaurants on Main Street and in the Amagansett Square include The Meeting House with a casually chic environment and sophisticated, well-executed bar food; Mary's Marvelous renowned for excellent baked goods, sandwiches, paninis, salads, and other prepared foods; the Hampton Chutney Company with Indian style dosas, uttapams, soups and other delicious sandwiches; Indian Wells Tavern which is a classic tavern featuring a large sports bar area and comfortable family dining room; and D'Canela offering Latin cuisine and regularly featuring live music.
In season, the Napeague Stretch features the Clam Bar with casual outdoor seafood dining near the beach; Cyril's, a well known outdoor bar and restaurant; and the Lobster Roll (also known simply as “LUNCH”), famous for – of course – its lobster rolls.
Apart from the excellent baked goods by Eli Zabar's famed Eli's Kitchen, a good cup of coffee and morning breakfast offered daily in season at the Farmer's Market, shoppers can avail themselves of either Stuart's Seafood or the Amagansett Seafood Shop, both offering fresh seafood, prepared foods and gourmet items; the Balsam Farm for locally grown produce and locally made baked goods and cheeses; Domaine Franey Wines/Spirits with excellent choices and particularly well priced lesser-known regions and producers; Amagansett Wines and Spirits with an amazing selection of high-end and hard to find labels; and Cirillo's IGA, known as the best supermarket east of Bridgehampton with a full butcher/meat department and a large selection of organic, wholesome foods. |
