Bill Thayer joins the Bridgehampton office of Brown Harris Stevens after a long management and legal career in corporate finance and real estate. A graduate of Hobart College and Syracuse University Law School, Bill completed in excess of $2 billion in a variety of financial transactions during the leverage buyout period of the 1980's. He was also a joint venture representative purchasing and developing over $500 million in real estate in South Florida. Before joining Brown Harris Stevens, Bill and his partners had been buying and selling commercial shopping centers and residential tracts of land in Southern California and the Hamptons.
Earlier in his management and legal career, Bill served as Vice President and General Counsel for Triangle Industries, a NYC-based leverage buy-out firm. He was also Assistant General Counsel for Purolator Courier and Chief Law Clerk for Thomas C. Platt, Chief Judge, U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York.
Bill was born and raised in Bridgehampton and has lived on and off there for most of his life. His extended family all live in the Bridgehampton, Sagaponack, Wainscott and West Mecox areas. Bill's historical knowledge of the area gives him a unique insight into the Hamptons real estate market, both past and present. Bill believes his family presence and local connections give him a special edge in real estate marketing and sales. In addition, the combination of Bill's local knowledge together with his previous legal, finance and real estate experience make him uniquely suited to effectively represent a broad spectrum of clients.
Bill is active in many civic and cultural organizations. He is a Director and Treasurer of the East Hampton Child Care Center, and was appointed by the Southampton Town Board to the Bridgehampton Citizen's Advisory Committee, on which he continues to serve. Bill is a member of the Search Committee of the San Diego French International School, Hamptons and North Fork Realtors Association (HANFRA), Bridgehampton Presbyterian Church, Bridgehampton Lions Club, and Bridgehampton Golf and Beach Clubs. Bill is a licensed attorney and real estate broker in the State of New York and a member of the New York State Bar Association.
